State awards tax breaks to encourage 195 new jobs in Southwest Ohio

Firms adding 90 new factory jobs

CINCINNATI - The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved tax breaks Monday for four expansion projects that are expected to create 195 new jobs in Southwest Ohio.

Contingent Network Services , a West Chester –based computer consulting firm, received a six-year, 45 percent tax credit to encourage the creation of 75 new jobs.

A Clermont County marketing firm, Healthcare Regional Marketing , is vowing to create 30 full-time jobs with an average salary of $44,990. State officials approved a 40 percent, five-year tax credit for the firm.

Benjamin Steel Company Inc. is planning an expansion to create 40 new jobs with a combined annual payroll of $1.5 million, or $37,000 per job. A 40 percent, six year tax credit is being offered to encourage that expansion.

Pioneer Cladding and Glazing Systems was offered a 45 percent tax credit over seven years to encourage a 50-job expansion in Mason. The deal requires Pioneer to keep its headquarters in Mason for at least 10 years.

The Pioneer and Benjamin Steel expansions are examples of a recent growth pocket in the Tri-State’s manufacturing sector, said Craig Todd, managing partner for Amend Consulting, a Hyde Park –based firm that advises manufacturers on efficiency and process improvements.

Companies engaged in pre-construction -- in which factory-built products are delivered as kits that can be quickly assembled on commercial construction sites -- are seeing an increase in orders, Todd said. It allows construction companies to assemble buildings more quickly with good quality and cost-control.

Todd said the manufacturing economy appears to be on the rise again, after a few fits and starts following the Great Recession.

“It’s just taking a lot of time and there’s still a lot of hesitation in the marketplace, but it’s coming back slowly,” he said. “People lost faith in the 2009 time frame. They’re reluctant to go full bore, even though the numbers are up.”
