CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated both suspects in this case were charged with prostitution after testing positive for HIV. That is incorrect. The suspects were charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor of the third degree.

CINCINNATI -- A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave after his wife was arrested on drug and prostitution charges earlier this week, according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Robison.

Elizabeth Erpelding, 32, is charged with prostitution. Sgt. James Erpelding is on leave while investigators work to determine what -- if anything -- he knew about his wife's arrest for prostitution and heroin charges, Robison said.

James Erpelding works in the county corrections division; he's worked for the sheriff's office for 17 years.

"You’re aware our office remains transparent. Once the investigation is concluded, we will share with you the outcome," Robison said in a statement. "Until then, it would be irresponsible for us to comment while the investigation is ongoing."

Elizabeth Erpelding's sister, Krysten Powers, 28, was also arrested for prostitution. Police said the sisters did one job together for $185.

Powers was previously convicted of prostitution in 2013. In total, she faces eight prostitution charges; Elizabeth only faces one.

Both women had syringes used for heroin in their possession, according to affidavits. They are due in court next week.
