CINCINNATI -- Big things are brewing at the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company.

The brewery is set to celebrate its tenth anniversary on Friday.

The party will also pay homage to the original founding of the brand by brewer Christian Moerlein 161 years ago.

The event will feature a limited edition barrel aged beer called 10/161 to commemorate the anniversaries.

Organizers said the event starts at 4 p.m. and will feature music at 9 p.m. and a celebratory toast at midnight Saturday.

The March 1 date coincides with the original founding of the company, as well as the tenth anniversary of the company’s current ownership.

"It has been a privilege and honor over the past 10 years to be a part of helping to restore Cincinnati’s grand brewing traditions," Greg Hardman, chief executive officer of Christian Moerlein Brewing Co., said in a release. “Thank You Cincinnati for your love and support.”

The 10/161 ale is a Winter Warmer that has been aged in bourbon barrels for three months. The brewery said the beer features notes of vanilla and bourbon upfront that balances with “sharp oak tannins, and rich chocolate malts.”

The event will also feature the debut of the Wienerwurst Mike Frankfurtary at the taproom. Patrons will get a sneak peek at the 19th century-style deli and frankfurtary which will be “reminiscent” of the original “Wienerwurst Mike’s” who sold sandwiches to beer hall patrons in Over-the-Rhine during the area’s boom days.

Christian Moerlein said the new dining option is being developed by the S&J Bakery and Café at Findlay Market.
