CINCINNATI - The Brandery, an Over-the-Rhine startup accelerator, is hoping to draw more than 1,000 applicants for its 2013 session starting in June.
The Brandery started taking applications on Monday for its 14-week mentoring program in which entrepreneurs work with some of Cincinnati's best marketing brains to find ways to bring their new-business ideas to life.
"We're hoping to double our number of applicants again this year," said Mike Bott, general manager. "We're expanding how we accept applicants."
Bott promoted the Brandery at recent startup conferences in Memphis and San Franciso. He's also taking applications through online portals like Angel List , Global Accelerator Network and – for the first time this year - F6S Mentor Shares.
The Brandery will select 11 companies by mid-May. Each startup receives $20,000 in seed funding, four months of mentoring and the chance to pitch investors at its annual Demo Day event in October.
Ohio's Third Frontier Commission last week approved a $200,000 funding commitment for this year's crop of Brandery companies. Last year's group is closing in on $3 million in investment capital raised, Bott said.
