CINCINNATI –  Former Cincinnati Bengals and University of Cincinnati defensive back Artrell Hawkins received a $5,000 bond when he appeared in court on a domestic violence charge Monday morning.

Hawkins was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device on his ankle.

Hawkins was arrested after a late Saturday night incident with his wife at a home in Springdale, according to documents filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Hawkins slashed the tires of his wife's car and kicked in the basement door of the residence where she was staying, she told police.

Hawkins' wife has filed for a temporary restraining order against him. The couple has been separated since November.

Representatives for Hawkins were not available for comment.

In November, Hawkins was released from his job as a national contributor to Fox Sports Radio "Daybreak" show.

He is a part-time employee of WLWT Channel 5.
