Authorities said the boy was reported missing before he was found at about 6 p.m. in a beach area near Lake Waynoka – a private community at 1 Waynoka Dr.
SARDINIA, Ohio – A 4-year-old child died Thursday evening, shortly after he was pulled from a body of water near a Sardinia, Ohio gated community.
Authorities said Alex Collett was reported missing before he was found at 5:21 p.m. in a beach area near Lake Waynoka – a private community at 1 Waynoka Dr. He died at the hospital a short time later, John Schadle of the Brown County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
Schadle said Collett was autistic, according to his family members.
Brown County deputies said he was last seen in the beach area restroom when they were called to the scene.
When he was found, Collett was unresponsive and CPR was performed, officials said. He was flown to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Authorities say there is no lifeguard monitoring the lake where Collett was found, and it is considered "swim at your own risk."
"There are swimming pools that do have lifeguards on duty. The beach area is not a lifeguarded area," Lake Waynoka Chief Ranger Gordon Ellis told WCPO's Tom McKee.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office said Thursday night that the investigation is ongoing.
