CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and various other schools and institutions across the Tri-State have decided to shut down operations Monday due to the threat of severe weather.
The University of Cincinnati announced Sunday night the majority of its academic campuses will be closed for the day due to expected weather conditions that will include a wintry mix of rain and snow that could freeze overnight. Punishing sub-zero temperatures with wind chill factors that could reach minus 40 degrees are also expected.
Campus affected by the closure include:
- Uptown campus – West
- Uptown campus – Medical campus
- Blue Ash campus
- Clermont campus
The College of Medicine and the Hoxworth Blood Center do not close for winter weather, according to the University of Cincinnati website.

Winter term classes are also canceled at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio due to severe cold. The closure also affects all regional campuses.
While the students have the day off, staff is expected to report to work, according to a message delivered by the university's official Twitter account.
Cincinnati State and Cincinnati Christian University are also closed. Thomas More College is also closed but staff is expected to report at 10 a.m.
In addition to those universities, various other schools and businesses in southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and eastern Indiana have decided to either prolong the weekend for an extra day or delay opening on Monday to ensure as a result of the predicted weather.
