CINCINNATI – A news conference is planned for Thursday to announce a new collaborative effort between City Council and the city’s public school board.
The two sides will discuss the new Alliance for Community and Educational Success (ACES) initiative Thursday at Rothenberg Academy on Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The new initiative creates an ongoing joint working group of City Council members and Cincinnati Public School Board members to convene regularly to develop shared policy goals between the two organizations, according to a release from the office of council member P.G. Sittenfeld.
Chairman of City Council's Education and Entrepreneurship Committee, Sittenfeld said in the release that a previous collaboration between the city and the school district was instrumental in the execution of Cincinnati's $1 billion school facilities master plan. The plan put in place 10 years ago resulted in new or fully renovated school buildings across the city and is set to end on time and on budget, according to officials from the board of education.
Within the last two weeks, both council and the school board approved new resolutions that established the framework for the new nice. Officials from the board of education said in a release that the collaboration is designed to draw upon and strengthen this tradition of partnership between the two organizations.
"The success of the city and the success of our schools are inextricably linked," said Sittenfeld and CPS Board President Eve Bolton in a joint statement. "This unprecedented commitment to a strong collaboration between these two critically important entities will benefit our children, our neighborhoods, and our economy."
The combined budgets of the city and the school board total is more than $2 billion.
At the news conference at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy – an example of a revitalized school in a revitalized neighborhood – the next steps in implementation of their resolutions, including the establishment of a joint working group and its areas of focus.
Specific details about the initiatives, areas of focus for ACES and monetary allocations will also be discussed.
