Hallmark Channel 'The Christmas Spirit' television movie being filmed in Lebanon

LEBANON, Ohio -- It looks like Christmas in Lebanon.

So much so you can see snow falling – fake snow, that is.

Hollywood has come to the Warren County community to shoot a Hallmark Channel movie called "The Christmas Spirit."

“It’s been a pleasure,” executive producer of the television film Alex Coscas said.

Coscas said his crew came to Ohio because of the tax incentives, but picked Lebanon because it was, well, “perfect.”

“It was actually the first time director Jack Angelo visited – and he fell in love with it right away,” Coscas said. “He didn't bother looking at other towns."

It may be strange for a Christmas movie to be filming during the Halloween season, but the film has to do with actress Nicollette Sheridan’s character and another becoming ghosts.

"They get into a car accident, by happenstance, and are both in a coma,” said Coscas. “We see them as spirits, and what they do throughout the town to help the town."

Lebanon residents are getting into the act as well.

Sonya Staffan, the owner of a downtown shop called Jam and Jelly Lady, was cast to play the owner of her own store.

Her daughter Jessica tended shop while she was on set.

"There were three other people auditioning for the part, and she got it,” Jessica Staffan said. “She was very excited."

The production is employing about 90 locals, and making residents feel a little like tourists in their own backyard.

"It's pretty cool to know that there are all kinds of people downtown just trying to get a glimpse of things,” said resident Jim Weible. “We just came down to do some errands and realized that the production is here."
