CINCINNATI - The world’s second-largest Oktoberfest celebration is only a month away, and officials with Oktoberfest Zinzinnati announced Monday that George Takei will be the Grand Marshal for this year's celebration.
Festival leaders said the selection is one of the biggest in the 37 years since Oktoberfest began.
Takei is an actor and author, best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the TV series Star Trek.
As Grand Marshal, Takei will lead the downtown Cincinnati celebration in the traditional chicken dance.
A big change to the event in 2013 is that the festival is expanding more festivities to Friday night.
The event will run from 5 p.m. to midnight on Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sept. 21 and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 22.
Organizers said more than 500,000 are expected during the event. It’s the second largest in the world only to the original in Germany.
It will feature 30 food vendors, several stages with live music and is expected to use more than 800 barrels of beer.
